Honda Aircraft Unveils Plans for New Fuel-Efficient Light Jet

Honda Aircraft Company is expanding its reach in the skies with the commercialization of a new light jet, building on the success of its existing HondaJet Elite II.

The announcement came on June 13, as the company introduced plans to begin production of the HondaJet 2600 Concept. The new jet was first showcased at the 2021 National Business Aviation Association’s (NBAA) Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition.

While aiming to gain type certification by 2028, the new jet signifies a fresh product line for the company. It is expected to enhance Honda Aircraft’s market offerings, propelling it alongside the currently popular HondaJet Elite II.

Unveiling the details of the new light jet, Honda Aircraft emphasized its commitment to reducing carbon emissions. The HondaJet 2600 Concept is set to outperform most jets in its category in terms of fuel efficiency, with fuel consumption projected to be 20% less than typical light jets. The new jet is also expected to offer a 40% improvement in fuel efficiency over medium-sized jets during standard missions.

“The commercialization of our new light jet represents Honda’s next chapter of skyward mobility, which further expands the potential of people’s lives,” said Hideto Yamasaki, President and CEO of Honda Aircraft Company. “By building on the expertise behind our technological innovations, we will accelerate the development of the program with sustainability a key element throughout.”

To ensure successful implementation of the project, Honda Aircraft has forged strategic alliances with key industry players. The company has entered into supplier agreements with Aernnova for aerostructures and components, Garmin for avionics, Spirit AeroSystems for the fuselage, and Williams International for engines.

The company is finalizing engineering designs for the new light jet, with fabrication activities already underway. The introduction of the HondaJet 2600 Concept adds to Honda Aircraft’s burgeoning reputation as an industry innovator, a move that underscores its commitment to sustainability and carbon emission reduction in the aviation industry.
