Tokyo Launches Website to Boost Inbound Tourism with Northern Kanto Regions

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has unveiled a new website to boost inbound tourism, connecting the city with the northern Kanto prefectures of Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Gunma. Developed by the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau, the website aims to encourage international visitors to explore regions beyond Tokyo, highlighting attractions accessible within one to two hours by train.

Launched on September 14, 2026, the “KITAKANTO x TOKYO” website introduces significant tourist destinations in the iconic city and the northern Kanto areas, offering insights into natural beauty, historical sites, and activities like hot springs and seasonal experiences. By December, it is slated to include detailed travel routes and curated lists of sightseeing spots.

The initiative is part of the ALL JAPAN & TOKYO Project, which supports regional collaboration for industrial growth by leveraging regional strengths. The website not only provides information on major attractions but also details transportation options, easing travel logistics from Tokyo to the northern Kanto region.

The platform, available in English, aims to provide comprehensive guidance for both independent and guided travel, integrating tourism details from local governments and relevant transportation services. As the project evolves, it is positioned as a practical tool to support the revival and expansion of Japan's tourism sector, leveraging Tokyo as a gateway to a broader Japanese experience.
