JCB International Co., Ltd and Wonder Ventures Limited have announced that JCB Cards are now accepted on Wonder Taxi in Hong Kong. This development comes in response to a new regulation by the Transport Department requiring all taxi drivers in the city to provide at least two electronic payment methods, effective April 1, 2026.
The integration of JCB into Wonder Taxi's in-vehicle solution allows drivers to meet the new requirement while offering passengers a secure and convenient payment option. Passengers can now tap, scan, or pay by JCB Card, with transactions processed through Wonder's platform and JCB's global network, reducing the need for cash handling.
For drivers, this integration streamlines the payment process at the end of each journey and aligns with Hong Kong's broader move towards smart mobility. Jason Ngan, Founder and CEO of Wonder, emphasized the importance of the government's e-payment mandate as a step forward for the taxi industry, enhancing the overall passenger experience.
Yutaro Shimizu, Managing Director of JCB International (Asia) Ltd., highlighted the expansion of JCB's acceptance to other transport services, such as the West Kowloon Ferry and minibus, as part of their commitment to providing cardmembers with confidence in using their cards in Hong Kong.
The collaboration between JCB and Wonder aims to support taxi drivers in complying with the new regulation and offers residents and visitors a modern, cash-light travel experience. This initiative reflects Hong Kong's ongoing commitment to improving service quality in public transport through the adoption of digital payments and smarter in-vehicle systems.
