Fujitsu Limited has announced a collaboration with leading robotics companies FANUC CORPORATION, YASKAWA Electric Corporation, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. to explore business opportunities in the field of physical AI. The initiative aims to develop a collaborative control platform that bridges the digital and physical worlds, integrating NVIDIA's open physical AI technologies.
This collaboration seeks to address challenges in various industrial sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare, by promoting the societal implementation of physical AI. Fujitsu aims to enhance productivity, automate tasks, and create new services, thereby strengthening Japan's industrial competitiveness.
As Japan faces labor shortages due to a declining birthrate and aging population, the demand for digital transformation has increased. Physical AI, which allows robots to autonomously assess situations and execute optimal actions, is seen as a solution to these challenges. Fujitsu plans to collaborate with its partners to develop an AI infrastructure that leverages high-quality on-site data and advanced robot control technology.
Fujitsu's exploration will focus on three key areas: optimizing factory production activities, automating logistics operations, and enhancing healthcare solutions. The company plans to standardize the collaborative control platform and open it to participating companies and research institutions, promoting widespread adoption of physical AI.
Through its collaboration with NVIDIA, Fujitsu will leverage AI, world model, simulation, and robotics technologies to enhance the collaborative control platform. This includes using NVIDIA's Cosmos global foundation model and libraries such as NVIDIA Omniverse and the NVIDIA Isaac open platform to streamline robot learning and optimization.
Fujitsu will formulate a roadmap for technology development and business expansion, confident that its AI infrastructure will position Japan as a leader in the global robotics market. The initiative aims to realize a society where humans and robots coexist and collaborate, contributing to a safe and sustainable environment.
Kenji Yamaguchi, President and CEO of FANUC, emphasized the importance of flexible AI systems that can be utilized by users of all skill levels. Masahiro Ogawa, Vice Chairman of YASKAWA Electric, highlighted the company's commitment to advancing automation through data utilization. Yasuhiko Hashimoto, President of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, expressed confidence in co-creating solutions that improve healthcare quality.
Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, described physical AI as the next industrial revolution, asserting that Japan will define its next era with AI. Takahito Tokita, CEO of Fujitsu, expressed optimism about the collaboration's potential to create a new social infrastructure where people and robots work collaboratively across various industries.
