BAE Systems and NEC Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on active cyber defense (ACD) solutions for the Japanese government. This partnership aims to enhance Japan's cybersecurity posture by leveraging the strengths of both companies.
The MoU builds on the Japan-UK Strategic Cyber Partnership agreed upon by the respective governments earlier this year. BAE Systems and NEC will focus on the joint development, implementation, and delivery of ACD solutions, combining BAE Systems' expertise in ACD best practices with NEC's technological capabilities and understanding of Japan's cybersecurity landscape.
The collaboration is designed to deliver solutions that are practically grounded and technically robust, aligning with national security priorities. Additionally, the two companies plan to explore a business collaboration framework that brings together industry stakeholders from the cybersecurity and national security sectors in both the UK and Japan. This initiative is expected to foster the growth of a highly skilled cyber sector in both nations.
Andrea Thompson, Group Managing Director of BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, emphasized the importance of leveraging best-in-class capabilities to meet customer needs and reflect their operational environment. Noboru Nakatani, Corporate Executive Vice President and Chief Security Officer of NEC Corporation, highlighted the increasing trend of cyber-attacks against national authorities and critical infrastructure, underscoring the need for proactive responses.
The partnership between BAE Systems and NEC aims to provide government organizations with access to top-tier technical and operational expertise, supporting long-term cyber resilience through the implementation of ACD solutions.
