Hitachi Expands Alliance with Google Cloud to Enhance Physical AI and Cybersecurity

Hitachi, Ltd. has announced an expansion of its strategic alliance with Google Cloud, aimed at accelerating the deployment of physical AI and bolstering cybersecurity measures against AI-generated threats. The collaboration focuses on leveraging AI-driven analysis and decision-making to automate operations in various industries.

Physical AI, which integrates AI solutions with real-world applications, is a key focus of the partnership. Hitachi plans to deploy its Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) globally, combining its expertise in IT and operational technology with Google Cloud's advanced AI capabilities. These FDEs will work directly with customers to identify challenges, validate solutions, and implement AI projects efficiently.

The alliance will enhance Hitachi's HMAX platform by integrating Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise, a multimodal AI platform. This integration aims to improve autonomous operations in complex environments by processing diverse data types, such as camera footage and sensor data. The enhanced platform will support frontline workers in executing complex operations autonomously.

In response to evolving cybersecurity threats, Hitachi and Google Cloud will deliver next-generation security solutions. These solutions will leverage Google Cloud's AI Threat Defense platform and Hitachi's domain expertise to protect social infrastructure from AI-driven cyberattacks.

The partnership, initially formed in 2024, has already demonstrated success through technical validations in Hitachi's power solutions operations. The companies aim to expand these initiatives to broader applications, enhancing AI literacy within Hitachi and scaling physical AI deployment globally.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized the innovative nature of the partnership, combining Hitachi's domain knowledge with Google Cloud's AI resources to empower customers. Jun Abe, Executive Vice President of Hitachi, highlighted the alliance's potential to address complex challenges and contribute to a sustainable society by integrating advanced AI with mission-critical systems.
