The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, is launching 'Explore with Us,' an English-language collection tour aimed at enhancing the experience for international visitors. The museum, which houses one of Japan's largest modern art collections, is also gearing up for its 'Blossoms in Japanese Art: Spring Festival' starting in March.
The 'Explore with Us' tour offers a complimentary 30-minute guided tour conducted by museum guides, featuring selected works within the museum's collection. The tours are available every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and noon, allowing participants to delve into modern Japanese art without the need for prior reservations. Entry is free for holders of MOMAT Collection tickets.
This initiative is designed to cater to both first-time and returning visitors to Japan, enriching their cultural experience with insights into Japan's modern art landscape. Conveniently situated near popular tourist destinations such as the Imperial Palace grounds, the museum provides a comprehensive cultural immersion experience.
To coincide with the cherry blossom season, the museum will host the 'Spring Festival' from March 13 to April 12, 2026. The event highlights cherry blossom-themed masterpieces, such as Kawai Gyokudo's 'Parting Spring,' which is displayed only once a year due to the painting's delicate condition. Visitors can also enjoy an array of artworks featuring Japan's spring flowers during this period.
Visitors can relax in the museum's Japanese-style rest area, which offers views of the cherry blossoms and features original spring-themed merchandise for sale. The festival aims to complement the natural beauty of the surrounding area, including the acclaimed cherry blossom spots at Chidorigafuchi Moat.
In addition to the new tours and festival, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, provides a 'Bloomberg Connects' multilingual guide app. The app, which is free to use, offers expert insights and comprehensive facility information, enhancing the overall visitor experience. More details about the museum's programs and offerings can be found on its official website.
