Kasumigaseki Capital Co., Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo, and JLG Capital Sdn Bhd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore opportunities in automated cold-storage and cold-chain infrastructure in Malaysia. This collaboration aims to integrate their expertise in property development and cold-chain logistics to enhance storage and operational efficiency across various temperature-controlled environments.
The partnership leverages JLG Capital’s local market knowledge in Malaysia and Kasumigaseki’s advanced automated storage capabilities. Focused on responding to the technologically driven requirements of modern logistics, the parties will evaluate potential joint ventures for investment and development of facilities that promise to deliver better storage capacity and improved space utilization.
Datuk Sr. Akmal Ahmad, Group Managing Director of JLG, emphasized the importance of not just the physical asset but also the integration of infrastructure, technology, and expertise to foster efficiency and competitiveness in the industrial real estate sector. He stated that the real estate developments aim to deliver improved operational outcomes for businesses.
Under the agreement, both companies will examine opportunities within Malaysia’s cold-chain and automated storage sector. This will include evaluating potential projects involving frozen and chilled storage facilities and automated cold-storage warehouses. JLG Capital is positioned to provide local development support, coordinating suitable land, market access, and financing, particularly through strategic platforms like the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.
Tomohiro Honma, Director and Executive Chairman of Kasumigaseki Capital Malaysia, expressed optimism about the project’s potential, citing Malaysia’s promising landscape for modern, technology-enabled cold-chain infrastructure. He underscored the combination of JLG’s market knowledge with Kasumigaseki’s expertise as a strong foundation for successful ventures.
This collaboration aligns with JLG’s strategy of entering partnerships that enhance technological capabilities within real estate, in support of Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030. The plan emphasizes technology adoption and higher-value industrial activities, aligning with the broader objectives of both companies involved in the MoU.
