Mitsubishi Motors to Launch New Electric SUV in Australia and New Zealand

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced plans to introduce the all-new ASX VR-e, a battery electric vehicle, to the Australian and New Zealand markets in 2026. The vehicle will be supplied on an OEM basis by Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., part of the Foxconn Group.

The ASX VR-e is set to enter the competitive small SUV segment in these regions, where demand for battery electric vehicles is growing, particularly in urban areas. This model is designed to offer advanced technology, driving performance, and distinctive styling while maintaining strong environmental credentials.

The ASX VR-e continues the legacy of the compact SUV ASX (Active Sports Crossover), a well-established name in Australia and New Zealand. The VR-e designation draws inspiration from Mitsubishi's iconic Galant VR-4 sports sedan, combining the sporty character of the VR heritage with electrified technology and advanced features.

Extensive testing on local roads has been conducted by Mitsubishi Motors engineers, who have implemented dedicated suspension tuning to achieve responsive handling and a high level of road-holding performance. The vehicle's design emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency, featuring a distinctive S-duct and active grille shutters to reduce drag.

Under its Mid- to Long-Term Vision, Mitsubishi Motors is focusing on strengthening its product lineup, particularly in the off-road vehicle and ASEAN strategic models. The company is leveraging collaborations with Alliance partners for EVs while developing its proprietary HEV and PHEV technologies to enhance both environmental performance and brand-defining driving characteristics.

Mitsubishi Motors plans to continue expanding its product offerings through collaboration with the Alliance and other partners, aiming to accelerate its electrification initiatives.
