Fujitsu Limited has announced the launch of its Accelerator Program for Defense Tech, a collaborative initiative designed to drive innovation within the defense sector. This program is part of an ongoing research commission from Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA), focusing on the development of AI technologies that function as support staff through defense multi-AI agents.
Fujitsu was contracted by ATLA in fiscal year 2025 to research and develop agentic AI using open innovation with Japanese startups and other entities. The primary goals include accelerating decision-making processes, enhancing information gathering and analysis capabilities, reducing personnel workload, and achieving labor savings in the defense domain.
With the global security environment evolving rapidly due to advancements in science and technology, digital innovations such as AI and quantum computing are becoming critical components in strengthening defense capabilities. Fujitsu's research aims to enhance the provision of information useful for decision-making by utilizing multi-AI agents that coordinate multiple AIs to derive autonomous conclusions.
Fujitsu plans to leverage its extensive expertise in AI technologies and defense, alongside innovative ideas from startups in non-defense industrial fields, to create further value in developing multi-AI agents. This initiative supports the dual-use technology concept, which serves both civilian and military applications, as advocated by Japan's Ministry of Defense.
Fujitsu reported consolidated revenues of 3.6 trillion yen (approximately US$23 billion) for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, maintaining its position as the leading digital services company in Japan by market share.
