JCB International Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Japan's JCB Co., Ltd., has introduced contactless payment options for its cardmembers on the Taipei Metro system. This move allows users to tap their JCB Cards or compatible devices at ticket gates, streamlining the travel process by eliminating the need for tickets or transit card reloads.
The Taipei Metro, operational since 1996, serves as a major transportation artery connecting Taipei City and New Taipei City. It spans over 100 kilometers and includes numerous stations that provide access to key urban areas and tourist attractions such as Taipei 101 and the National Palace Museum.
In addition to the Taipei Metro, JCB contactless payment solutions are also available on other major transit systems in Taiwan, including the Kaohsiung Metro, Taoyuan Metro, and Taichung Metro. This expansion aligns with a global trend of increasing contactless payment adoption in public transportation, aimed at enhancing convenience for commuters and tourists alike.
JCB's efforts to promote cashless solutions in transportation are part of its broader strategy to expand usage scenarios and improve customer convenience. The company, which began its card business in Japan in 1961 and expanded internationally in 1981, continues to grow its global acceptance network through partnerships with banks and financial institutions worldwide.
