Saga Prefecture to Host Major Events and Openings in 2026

Saga Prefectural Government in southwestern Japan has announced a series of events and openings for 2026, aimed at attracting international media attention. This lineup combines traditional festivals, global environmental initiatives, and international sporting events, showcasing Saga's cultural and innovative spirit.

Among the highlighted openings is the Snow Peak Grounds Yoshinogari, an interactive complex at Yoshinogari Historical Park. It will open its doors on March 18, with accommodations available from April 18. The site will feature period-inspired cottages and one of Kyushu's largest camping fields.

In the realm of manufacturing innovation, the World Ocean Plastic Planning Center, set to open on June 7, will tackle global marine plastic pollution. This groundbreaking facility will incorporate regional initiatives, offering hands-on experiences and exhibits devoted to upcycling marine plastics, complete with a cafe and a shop.

Meanwhile, cultural enthusiasts can look forward to the Arita Ceramic Fair from April 29 to May 5. As the largest ceramics fair in Arita, the birthplace of Japan’s porcelain industry, it draws approximately 1.2 million visitors annually.

The international sporting scene will also converge on Saga with the debut of the Mynavi Tour de Kyushu road race on October 10. As part of the Union Cycliste Internationale-recognized tour, top cyclists from global road racing teams will make their way to Saga, specifically to Karatsu.

Additionally, the Saga International Balloon Fiesta, Asia's largest sky sports event, is returning from October 30 to November 3. The previous year’s event featured 124 pilots from 20 countries, attracting over 800,000 spectators.

Finally, the festival season will climax with the Karatsu Kunchi from November 2 to November 4. This UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage-listed float festival is renowned for some of the largest dry lacquer craftsmanship works in Japan.

Media organizations covering these events will receive support from the Saga Prefectural Government, including interpretation services and coordinated interviews and site visits. Saga’s proximity to Fukuoka and Nagasaki, being within one hour’s reach, provides easy access for international visitors.
