Lockheed Martin and Fujitsu Limited have solidified their industrial collaboration by finalizing a purchase order for a key component of Japan’s Aegis System Equipped Vessel (ASEV) SPY-7 radar antenna. This agreement formalizes Fujitsu as a supplier for the SPY-7 Subarray Suite Power Supply Line Replaceable Unit (PS LRU), marking a significant advancement in co-production efforts and bolstering Japan's defense capabilities.
The partnership was cemented through a formal signing ceremony, which underscores Lockheed Martin's commitment to establishing a robust, Japan-based supply chain for the SPY-7 radar. Chandra Marshall, Vice President and General Manager at Lockheed Martin, stated that this move reflects the company's dedication to keeping the ASEV fleet mission-ready for decades.
This formal agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2025, which aimed to position Fujitsu as a key supplier for the PS LRU. Lockheed Martin's SPY-7 radar technology is known for its advanced detection and tracking capabilities, allowing users to simultaneously engage multiple targets, providing significant performance improvements over traditional SPY-1 radars.
Kenichiro Miyazaki, Senior Vice President and Head of the National Security Business Unit at Fujitsu, expressed honor in commencing mass production of the PS LRU. He emphasized Fujitsu's commitment to strengthening Japan's defense sector and its domestic production and maintenance infrastructure through this collaboration.
The development of a Japan-based supplier for ASEV’s SPY-7 is indicative of both companies' dedication to enhancing Japan's defense strength and technological prowess. The ongoing collaboration between Lockheed Martin and Japan is seen as a key factor in maintaining security and prosperity in the evolving Indo-Pacific region.
This industrial collaboration not only strengthens Japan's defense capabilities but also supports its role in the broader regional security framework. The SPY-7 radar is also interoperable with other radars and platforms, including the Aegis Combat System, further integrating Japan’s defense technology with global allies.
As regional security challenges continue to evolve, the collaboration between Lockheed Martin and Fujitsu is expected to remain a vital component in supporting stability and security in the Indo-Pacific.
