Fujitsu has announced plans to begin manufacturing sovereign AI servers in Japan, a move intended to bolster digital sovereignty and safeguard critical information. Production is set to commence in March 2026 at the Fujitsu Group's Kasashima Plant, marking a significant step towards ensuring the protection of essential infrastructure against geopolitically driven cyber threats and regulatory pressures.
The company plans to produce Japanese-made servers powered by Fujitsu's energy-efficient FUJITSU-MONAKA processor, alongside servers equipped with advanced NVIDIA HGX B300 and NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs. These systems are designed to meet the critical needs of sectors requiring stringent data security and operational autonomy, compliant with local regulation while minimizing risks of data leaks.
The manufacturing initiative comes in response to the growing designation of specified essential infrastructure service providers under Japan's Economic Security Promotion Act, underscoring the need for robust system risk management. By deploying these servers, Fujitsu aims to enhance traceability, security risk management, and operational transparency for mission-critical applications.
All production activities will be consolidated domestically at the Kasashima Plant, utilizing expertise gained from the manufacture of the supercomputer Fugaku. This integrated production approach will cover stages from printed circuit board creation to complete device assembly, ensuring full traceability.
In expanding its strategic partnerships, Fujitsu will collaborate with Super Micro Computer, Inc. to oversee the planning, development, manufacturing, sales, and maintenance of these AI servers. Furthermore, Fujitsu aims to deploy these servers not only in Japan but also in the European market, thus extending its global reach.
The technological capabilities of the FUJITSU-MONAKA processor leverage advancements achieved from a project co-sponsored by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), placing Fujitsu at the forefront of meeting sophisticated digital security requirements.
