NEC Secures Contract to Equip Australian Navy Frigates

NEC Corporation has signed a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia to supply nine types of defense equipment for the Royal Australian Navy's SEA3000 frigate procurement program. The initial phase includes outfitting three ships, part of a broader plan to acquire 11 vessels.

The agreement involves NEC providing underwater-related equipment, such as surface ship sonars, which are crucial for enhancing the operational capabilities and reliability of naval vessels. Additionally, NEC will supply communications and navigation-related equipment, including the UNICORN integrated communications antenna.

NEC has a history of supplying sonar systems, information and communication systems, and navigation systems to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Building on this experience, NEC will equip the frigates that Australia is procuring from Japan.

According to NEC Executive Officer, Corporate EVP and COO, Hiroyuki Nagano, the company aims to strengthen Australia's defense capabilities and enhance interoperability between Japan and Australia through this contract. Nagano emphasized that the transfer of defense equipment is a critical initiative contributing to regional peace and stability.

NEC's involvement in the SEA3000 program underscores its commitment to leveraging integrated systems that support naval vessel operations, ranging from underwater capabilities to communications and navigation. The company's efforts align with its broader goal of cooperating with partner nations to support greater security.
