Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo is offering a series of traditional dance performances by Kagurazaka Geisha in its hotel lobby, as part of an initiative to attract international visitors during Japan's cherry blossom season. These events take place every Thursday from February 26 through March 26, excluding March 12, with complimentary admission for guests.
The performances, scheduled for March 19 and March 26, highlight the “Kagurazaka Odori” dance, recognized as an Intangible Cultural Property by Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward. Each session will feature live shamisen music, a three-stringed Japanese instrument, played by local musicians. The event reflects Keio Plaza Hotel's commitment to promoting regional culture and enhancing guest experiences.
The hotel's initiative comes at a time when Shinjuku is becoming increasingly popular among international tourists, aligning with a broader strategy to position the hotel as a cultural hub in Tokyo. Collaborating with the Tokyo Kagurazaka Association, the performances aim to offer a rare glimpse into the world of Kagurazaka Geisha, which is not typically accessible to the general public.
Keio Plaza Hotel, operational since 1971, continues its tradition of hosting Japanese cultural events, extending its program to include various arts and crafts workshops. This approach not only enriches the cultural offerings at the hotel but also supports the area's accessibility and appeal, bolstering local tourism.
Performance details and promotional images are available on the hotel's special website dedicated to this cultural showcase.
