Gurunavi, Inc. has announced the debut of its special pavilion, “JAPAN WOOD x CRAFTSMANSHIP,” at the MAISON & OBJET PARIS 2026. The event, taking place from September 10 to September 14, 2026, in Paris, France, highlights traditional and modern Japanese woodcrafts.
A key feature of the pavilion will be live demonstrations of the “Odate Magewappa,” an ancient Japanese craft native to Odate City, Akita Prefecture. Yoshimasa Shibata, one of only 16 certified traditional craftsmen in this art form, will demonstrate techniques such as “Mage-kakou” (bending process) and “Kaba-toji” (bark stitching) at the exhibition.
Beyond the demonstrations, the pavilion will display over 40 Japanese wood products, including furniture, decor, and tableware. These items combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design elements, offering insights into the potential for wood products to enhance contemporary European lifestyles.
Japan's commitment to sustainable forest management underpins the exhibition. Around 70% of Japan's land is forested, with a substantial portion dedicated to planted forests, contributing to global efforts in sustainable resource management. Wood products from such forests absorb and store carbon dioxide, playing a crucial role in addressing climate change and supporting corporate ESG goals.
The “JAPAN WOOD x CRAFTSMANSHIP” pavilion, supported by the Forestry Agency of Japan, showcases not only the beauty and utility of Japanese woodcrafts but also their contribution to eco-friendly practices and sustainable living. The exhibit is located in Hall 6 at Stand N120 – P119 at the Paris Nord Villepinte venue.
