The Valuism Conference 2026, alongside the 9th Global Conference on Creating Value, will take place from December 10-12 at Doshisha University in Kyoto, marking an official event for the 50th Anniversary of the Australia-Japan Basic Treaty of Friendship and Co-operation.
Under the theme “Making Value Visible,” the conference will gather researchers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and practitioners to transform multi-stakeholder value into a measurable management discipline. The event will focus on bridging the gap in measuring the value created or destroyed by corporate decisions across various stakeholders, including customers, employees, partners, shareholders, communities, and the environment.
As sustainability disclosure regimes such as Japan's SSBJ and the European Union's CSRD demand more credible evidence, organizations face the challenge of understanding the real impact of their decisions on long-term performance. The program in Kyoto will explore topics such as value measurement, intangible and trapped value, voiceless stakeholders, technology for value visibility, innovation, and value creation principles rooted in Japanese martial philosophy.
Professor Philip Sugai emphasized the importance of developing a practical and transparent framework to help decision-makers understand who benefits, who bears costs, and where better decisions can create more durable value across the entire system. The conference aims to move from shared vocabulary to implementation, culminating in discussions on research, education, industry, and governance priorities for 2027 and beyond.

The conference is part of the anniversary program fostering deeper Australia-Japan cooperation in innovation, research translation, sustainability, and responsible business. Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit extended abstracts or case and practitioner papers by August 31, 2026. Accepted submissions will be notified by September 30, with final papers due by October 30.
