Toyota Unveils Upgraded GR86 with Enhanced Features and Safety Technologies

GAZOO Racing, a division of Toyota, has introduced a partially upgraded version of the GR86, with customer orders beginning on August 28 at Toyota dealerships across Japan.

The updated GR86 brings back the limited-time exterior color 'Solid Gray' and features an enhanced RZ trim level interior. The upgrades include fine-tuned throttle control, electric power steering, and improved shift operability, enhancing the vehicle's nimbleness and handling.

A key addition to the GR86 is the EyeSight driver-assist system, now featuring a triple-camera configuration for a broader field of view. This upgrade aims to support safer driving in a variety of situations, tailored specifically for the low stance of a sports car.

Since its launch in 2021, the GR86 has seen approximately 110,000 units delivered globally, making it the most widely distributed model in the GR-exclusive lineup. The model continues to appeal to a diverse range of customers, providing the thrill of a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car.

The GR86 Cup Car Basic model, used in the GR86/BRZ Cup one-make race series, now offers an automatic transmission option. This addition is intended to broaden the appeal of motorsports and cater to a wider audience.

The upgraded GR86 will be showcased at the Toyota Motor Corporation showroom in Midland Square, Nagoya, until September 7. It will also be featured at the 'FUJI 86/BRZ STYLE 2026' event at Fuji Speedway on September 12, where various 86-related activities are planned.

Shipments of the updated GR86 are scheduled to begin in December 2026, with prices potentially varying by region.
