The Tokyo Festival Executive Committee has revealed plans for the second edition of Autumn Meteorite Tokyo, scheduled to run from October 9 to November 3, 2026. The event will be centered around the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre and aims to bolster the performing arts scene.
Under the artistic leadership of Toshiki Okada, a noted playwright and director affiliated with the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre since fiscal 2026, the festival seeks to create innovative works, enhance international cultural exchange, and nurture the next wave of performing arts professionals.
The festival will showcase a diverse range of performing arts projects from Japan and international artists. Attendees can also participate in non-performance activities such as workshops and symposiums that aim to ensure accessibility and inclusivity as part of the “Hello and Welcome” initiatives.
This year, the Tokyo Festival Executive Committee highlights the opportunity for audiences to engage directly with the current performing arts landscape, fostering connections and exploration of new perspectives.
The festival lineup features an array of performances, including Theatre Nohgaku's English Noh “Blue Moon Over Memphis,” the German play “CRAVE” by Christopher Ruping, and Pijin Neji and YCAM's “Generative Sensei.” Other notable projects include “San Marudaga Dankoro 3 — A Performance of Sound and Movement” by Aitara Ei, “A Play to Watch When You Feel Lonely at Midnight” by Junko Emoto, and the Mexico-based performance “MI MADRE Y EL DINERO” by Anacarsis Ramos, also known as PORNOTRAFICO.
Japan's Dadaruzu will present “Drooling Ferris Wheel,” while Nadia Beugré from the Ivory Coast and France will introduce “Burning Girls.” Additional performances include “The 11th Nijigumi Academy Autumn Culture Festival” by NIJIGUMI FIGHTS, a collaborative project “A Massive Attack of The Quietness” by Toshiki Okada and Kazuki Yamada, and “Ergonomic Embryo” by Shin Hanagata.
Chikako Yamashiro's “Recalling(s) — Theatrical Version” and the Russian performance “WHITE CABIN” by AKHE ENGINEERING THEATRE are part of the international segment designed to foster global artistic dialogue. CCBT and Autumn Meteorite Tokyo will co-host “Future Ideations Camp Vol.9: Fiction — Technology — Imagination,” a residency promoting discussion and exploration.
For industry professionals, the festival includes an international presenter invitation and support initiatives for attendees to ensure welcoming access. The committee remains committed to providing spaces for reflection and conversation, focusing on the thematic objective of reconsidering the world through performing arts.
