JCB Achieves 82.4% Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions by FY2025

JCB Co., Ltd., Japan's sole international payment brand, has announced a significant reduction in its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, achieving an 82.4% decrease by fiscal year 2025 compared to fiscal year 2013 levels. This accomplishment surpasses the company's target of reducing emissions by more than 80% by the end of FY2025.

The reduction was primarily driven by JCB's strategic shift to CO2-free electricity and the implementation of energy-saving measures across its offices. These efforts are part of the company's broader initiative to reach net-zero GHG emissions by FY2030, in alignment with global climate goals set forth by the Paris Agreement.

Among the energy-saving measures implemented, JCB has introduced LED lighting, upgraded building equipment such as air-conditioning systems, and optimized the operating hours for air-conditioning in its offices. These measures have been applied at JCB's head office in Tokyo and its European head office in London.

In addition to reducing its own emissions, JCB is addressing the environmental impact of its business activities. A notable initiative is the issuance of biomass cards in Japan, which began in July 2023. These cards, made partially from plant-derived materials, have seen a cumulative issuance of approximately 500,000 units as of June 2026. Each card helps reduce GHG emissions by about 3.9 grams compared to conventional petroleum-based cards.

JCB's biomass cards consist of approximately 25% plant-derived biomass materials by weight, contributing to the reduction of finite resources like petroleum. The company has also committed to further environmentally conscious initiatives, such as transitioning to paperless customer documents.

JCB's efforts reflect a growing trend among global corporations to integrate sustainable practices into their operations, responding to increased environmental awareness and demand for eco-friendly products from consumers.
