Fujitsu Limited is partnering with Tokyu Construction Co., Ltd. and Kitano Construction Corp. to trial an AI solution aimed at improving construction process and risk management. The field trial, taking place at Fujitsu Technology Park, runs from August 3 to December 25, 2026. The initiative seeks to address challenges such as labor shortages and the reliance on experienced site managers by leveraging AI to enhance productivity and knowledge transfer.
The AI technology analyzes data from construction schedules, daily reports, and inspection records to identify potential omissions and risks. By predicting issues related to construction processes, material procurement, and personnel arrangements one to two months in advance, the companies aim to mitigate risks like project delays and procurement omissions.
Fujitsu, responsible for the AI's planning and development, is collaborating with Tokyu Construction and Kitano Construction, who provide site expertise and verification data. The trial will assess the AI's accuracy in detecting planning omissions, its usefulness in providing information, and its ability to support site managers while reducing their workload.
The AI's adaptability to various data formats and operational processes, including construction drawings and schedules, is also under evaluation. The goal is to integrate the AI with other technologies, such as photo data and BIM data, to further enhance its effectiveness in managing construction processes.
This trial is part of the broader FTP Redevelopment Project, a collaboration between Fujitsu and Kawasaki City, aimed at demonstrating advanced technologies and promoting regional co-creation. The project aligns with industry demands for work-style reform and productivity improvements, addressing the need for systems that enable younger personnel to perform high-quality site operations.
Fujitsu plans to enhance the AI's capabilities by utilizing its AI platform, Fujitsu Kozuchi, and quantum-inspired technology, Digital Annealer. This initiative is expected to contribute to improved productivity, address labor shortages, and facilitate the transfer of expertise across the construction industry.
Both Tokyu Construction and Kitano Construction are committed to advancing digital transformation in construction, using AI to achieve higher productivity and more flexible, efficient work practices. The companies view this collaboration as a step towards reducing reliance on skilled workers and supporting young site supervisors in the increasingly complex construction environment.
