ROHM Launches Ultra-Compact Evaluation Board for Power-Efficient IC

ROHM Co., Ltd. has introduced the BD83070GWL-EVK-002 evaluation board to showcase the capabilities of its BD83070GWL DC-DC converter IC, allowing for high efficiency and minimal current consumption. This board is now available for purchase online, with additional resources such as circuit layout data and the bill of materials (BOM) provided to aid in transitioning from evaluation to production design.

The BD83070GWL is tailored for devices relying on small batteries or limited power sources, achieving an efficiency rate of up to 97% and a quiescent current of 2.8 microamperes.

The evaluation board is designed to meet the small footprint demands essential for compact, battery-powered devices. It integrates the BD83070GWL with a coil, capacitors, and only a total of five components, resulting in a compact 12.87 mm² mounting area. This offers a notable size advantage over conventional configurations.

Target application examples for this innovation range widely and include wearable devices like smartwatches and biometric sensors, mobile AR/VR devices, IoT applications such as AI sensor nodes and smart locks, and other battery-powered gadgets like e-cigarettes and wireless earbuds.
