Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Secures Maintenance Contract with Taiwan High Speed Rail

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has signed a contract with Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) to supply maintenance tools and equipment for the Yanchao Main Workshop in southern Taiwan. This facility is dedicated to the upkeep and inspection of trains operated by THSRC.

The agreement involves MHI delivering, installing, and conducting testing and commissioning of maintenance tools and equipment at the Yanchao Main Workshop. This initiative is part of THSRC's preparations for the introduction of the new N700ST series trains, with commercial operations expected to commence in the latter half of 2027.

The project aims to enhance the maintenance infrastructure in line with the new train series, contributing to improvements in the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) network's transportation services. Since its launch in 2007, the THSR network has become a critical component of Taiwan's transportation infrastructure, with annual ridership growing from approximately 15 million to 82 million by 2025.

Currently, the THSR network accommodates around 230,000 passengers daily, with cumulative ridership exceeding 1 billion. This underscores its significant role in facilitating economic activity and mobility across Taiwan.

MHI's involvement with the THSR network dates back to 2000, when it was part of a consortium of seven Japanese companies awarded the THSR Core System Supply Contract. The network began commercial operations in January 2007, with MHI contributing to various projects, including the Nangang Extension Project and developments at the Zuoying Depot.

This latest contract highlights MHI's longstanding expertise and technical capabilities in the transportation sector. The company plans to continue leveraging its technology and project management skills to support the THSR network's ongoing development and ensure safe, reliable service.
