Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced plans to introduce the all-new Eclipse Sportback, a battery electric vehicle (BEV), to the North American market in the second half of 2026. The vehicle will be supplied by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. under an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) arrangement.
The Eclipse Sportback, a subcompact SUV, is designed to combine sporty aesthetics with strong environmental performance. Mitsubishi Motors has incorporated unique design elements, including modifications to the front and rear bumpers, grille, headlights, and other exterior features, to reflect its brand identity.
This initiative is part of a broader collaboration between Mitsubishi Motors and Nissan, who are alliance partners. The companies are working together on various projects, including new pickup trucks for North America and kei-cars for Japan. The OEM arrangement allows Mitsubishi Motors to diversify its offerings, with Nissan supplying the Eclipse Sportback for the U.S. and Canadian markets.
In addition to the Eclipse Sportback, Mitsubishi Motors supplies Nissan with the Rogue Plug-in Hybrid for North America, the Navara for Oceania, and the Livina for the Philippines. Conversely, Mitsubishi Motors procures the Versa Van from Nissan for the Philippine market.
Through these strategic partnerships, Mitsubishi Motors aims to expand its product lineup and improve profitability. The company continues to leverage its alliances to strengthen its market position and enhance its offerings.
