Mitsubishi Motors Prepares for AXCR 2026 with Enhanced Triton Performance

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced that Team Mitsubishi Ralliart successfully completed a seven-day endurance test on off-road courses near Khao Yai National Park in northeastern Thailand. The test, conducted under conditions simulating the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR), confirmed the performance improvements made to the Triton pickup trucks.

Team Mitsubishi Ralliart plans to enter three Triton vehicles in AXCR 2026, aiming for a second consecutive title. The rally, scheduled for August 9 to August 15, will cover approximately 2,000 kilometers across various terrains in Thailand, including steep mountainous areas and rugged jungle trails.

Adjustments to the Triton include changes to the vehicle layout, such as the powertrain position, to improve front-to-rear weight distribution. The suspension has been fine-tuned to enhance tire contact, improving steering stability and cornering performance. Additionally, engine response in the low- to mid-speed range has been refined to boost drivability and off-road capability.

Hiroshi Masuoka, team director of Team Mitsubishi Ralliart, highlighted the technical insights gained from participating in AXCR over the past four years. These insights have not only enhanced the competitiveness of their rally cars but also contributed to the development of production vehicles like the all-new Pajero, set to premiere this autumn.

The AXCR 2026 will commence with a ceremonial start in Pattaya and proceed north through regions such as Prachinburi and Nakhon Sawan, concluding in Phitsanulok. The rally's diverse and challenging course demands vehicles capable of handling high-speed conditions and the significant load imposed by road impacts.

Team Mitsubishi Ralliart will be led by experienced drivers, including Chayaphon Yotha from Thailand, Katsuhiko Taguchi from Japan, and Kazuto Koide from Mitsubishi Motors. Each driver brings a wealth of experience and a track record of success in rally competitions.

Mitsubishi Motors continues to leverage its rally activities to enhance vehicle development, aiming to deliver distinctive and compelling products that reflect the company's identity. The improvements made to the Triton and the forthcoming Pajero demonstrate Mitsubishi's commitment to innovation and performance in both rally and consumer markets.
