Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Preferred Networks Form AI Partnership

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Preferred Networks, Inc. (PFN) have announced a business alliance to develop advanced AI technologies aimed at enhancing mission-critical machinery and systems in Japan's social infrastructure and national security sectors.

The partnership addresses the growing need for rapid responses to complex challenges in these fields, which are essential for maintaining safety and resilience. By integrating PFN's AI expertise with MHI's hardware and system design capabilities, the alliance aims to create autonomous systems with sophisticated situational assessment and response capabilities.

MHI has been a leader in Japan's social infrastructure, aerospace, defense, and space sectors, leveraging its extensive experience in hardware design and system integration. PFN, since its founding in 2014, has built a reputation for delivering advanced AI models, supercomputing infrastructure, and proprietary AI chips across various industries.

The collaboration will focus on developing AI-powered machinery and systems that are reliable and responsive, combining MHI's advanced technologies with PFN's AI models and infrastructure. The goal is to embed these AI technologies into MHI's product portfolio to drive intelligent operations, predictive maintenance, and rapid crisis management.

Both companies plan to conclude a capital and business alliance agreement within fiscal 2026 to strengthen their cooperative foundation and accelerate R&D investments and commercialization efforts. This strategic move is expected to contribute to building sustainable, secure, and safe social infrastructure through AI-driven innovation.
