Daicel Corporation's High Performance Polymers SBU has pioneered an innovative application of its DURAST POM fine powder, which has been integrated into a stick-form lubricant by Japan-based Maia Co. Ltd. This solid lubricant addresses common maintenance challenges such as dripping, splattering, and over-application waste, promising significant improvements in maintenance processes.
The product, facilitated by Maia's Sol – Mid technology, is designed for ease of use and can be packaged in stick-shaped containers or molded into custom shapes according to customer requirements. The Sol – Mid's high performance is largely due to the chemical properties of DURAST POM, which acts as an interlayer in the product, ensuring compatibility and stability.
Unlike traditional liquid lubricants, this stick format eliminates the risk of leakage and adds convenience for maintenance tasks in various sectors, particularly in office equipment where it could reduce conventional maintenance oil usage by approximately 80%. The product's portability further enhances its utility at maintenance sites.
The development of the DURAST POM fine powder overcame previous challenges associated with processing general-purpose resins into uniform powder through conventional grinding. Daicel's proprietary process delivers fine and sharp particle size distribution necessary for its distinct application.
Commercialization of the stick format lubricant is set to target maintenance applications across office equipment manufacturers, industrial machinery repair, bicycle maintenance, and conveyor systems, highlighting the versatility and broad potential impact of this innovation.
