TOMY Company, Ltd., headquartered in Katsushika-ku, Tokyo, has announced the imminent release of the latest addition to its ZOIDS lineup, the AZ-17DX Ultrasaurus Gravity Cannon version. This model, part of the ADVANCED Zi series within the high-end T-SPARK hobby label, is expected to hit the market in late February 2027.
The Ultrasaurus model, featuring the iconic Gravity Cannon from the 1999-2000 ZOIDS anime, is a significant addition to the series. It is the first model to incorporate this anime-original weapon, enhancing its authenticity to the beloved series. In addition, a non-weaponized version of the AZ-17 Ultrasaurus will be released through various electronics retailers and online platforms, including TOMY's official online store, TOMY MALL.
Yoshio Kaiho, head of the Character & Collectibles Division at TOMY, remarked on the redesign of the Ultrasaurus, which celebrates 40 years since its original release in 1986. This updated model combines modern technology with classic elements, offering refined articulation and design. The new product is also expected to meet the growing global demand, particularly among adult fans in Asia and North America.
The AZ-17DX Ultrasaurus Gravity Cannon version measures 721 mm long, 379 mm high, and 392 mm wide, making it one of the largest in the series. The model is equipped with a gear-driven mechanism to realistically simulate loading and firing sequences, although it does not launch actual shells. Pre-orders for the model are set to open in early July 2026, exclusively on TOMY MALL.
In addition to the Ultrasaurus, the company is expanding its toy offerings with the soon-to-be-released Transformers Overgear Optimus Prime, which features a tank transporter vehicle mode and a detailed robot mode. Pre-orders for this product will begin in June 2026, with a release planned for spring 2027.
Further expanding its reach, TOMY's T-SPARK brand inaugurated its first standalone store, T-SPARK Zone Hong Kong, on May 1, 2026. The store serves as a pivotal point for engaging with fans and showcasing the brand's diverse range of products. This move underscores TOMY's strategic focus on strengthening its global presence, particularly in key markets across Asia and North America, through both retail locations and high-profile appearances at events like Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong.
