Gordonstoun Japan, in partnership with OCC Educational Corporation Limited, has announced the Impact Challenge Summer 2026, marking the establishment of Gordonstoun's first international boarding campus. The summer program in Wakayama, Japan, will precede the opening of the permanent boarding facility scheduled for 2027.
The “Impact Challenge Summer Programme” intends to extend Gordonstoun's educational philosophy, famed for educating members of the British Royal Family, into an international context. With the motto “Plus est en vous” or “There is more in you,” the program will engage students in real-world leadership experiences through humanitarian and environmental projects.
The curriculum, designed by international humanitarian Linda Cruse, features core tracks that address global and environmental challenges. Students aged 10-14 will have the opportunity to develop strategies for sustainable economic resilience for Himalayan communities and tackle marine plastic issues around Tomogashima Island. Selected participants will also travel to Nepal for field implementation.
Natasha Dangerfield, the founding principal of Gordonstoun Japan, emphasized the school's commitment to redefining education. “This program is designed to cultivate responsibility and global awareness, bringing the spirit of our Scottish heritage to the unique landscape of Wakayama,” said Dangerfield.
The initiative is poised to blend Gordonstoun's tradition of academic rigour with its emphasis on outdoor education and service, as it embarks on this significant step beyond the UK. The partnership with OCC Educational Corporation Limited, a storied institution with a 120-year legacy, underscores the collaborative effort to introduce this educational model to the Japanese context.
