NTT DOCOMO, INC. has introduced a new system utilizing FEEL TECH™ haptic technology, designed to elevate fan experiences by transmitting physical sensations from artists. This innovation aims to deepen the connection between fans and their idols, including anime and game characters, by integrating touch and emotional cues through a hand-held device.
The system, developed in collaboration with Cover Corporation, features trial content with the VTuber group “hololive English -Myth-.” It allows fans to experience synchronized physical sensations such as dynamic movements and subtler cues like heartbeats, significantly enhancing immersion and realism compared to traditional audio-visual experiences.
This initiative taps into Japan's growing “oshi-katsu” culture, where fans actively support and engage with their favorite idols. By enabling artists to convey movement, energy, and emotion through haptic feedback, the system expands the possibilities for artistic expression, creating a more personal emotional connection.
NTT DOCOMO plans to showcase this technology at the International Innovations section of South by Southwest (SXSW) 2026 in Austin, Texas. The company aims to pioneer new communication cultures and create meaningful value that enriches lives, aligning with its mission to drive innovation in technology and communications.
