Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. (MHI-AP), a subsidiary of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, has secured a contract from Singapore's National Environment Agency for a boiler retrofit at the Tuas South Incineration Plant (TSIP) in western Singapore.
The project aims to enhance the waste handling capacity of the stoker-type incinerator and extend the facility's operational lifespan, with completion expected by the fourth quarter of 2027. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Environmental & Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (MHIEC), part of the MHI Group, will oversee the design, construction, and operational support for the retrofit.
Originally designed and constructed by MHI, TSIP was completed in 2000 and has a daily processing capacity of 3,000 tons. It is operated and maintained by the National Environment Agency. The retrofit will involve design modifications and replacement of certain sections of the boiler tubes.
MHIEC's expertise as the original designer and constructor of TSIP will be leveraged to propose an optimal refurbishment scope, aiming to maintain throughput and ensure stable operations. After the project's completion, MHIEC will provide ongoing support to ensure reliable plant performance.
Since the launch of the Tuas Incineration Plant in 1986, MHIEC has delivered four waste-to-energy incineration facilities in Singapore. The company is expanding its commitment beyond equipment supply and construction to include facility operations and maintenance services.
The MHI Group continues to support Singapore's sustainable waste management and decarbonization goals through energy recovery from waste.
