JCB Expands Contactless Payment Options in Taiwan Through Google Pay

JCB Co., Ltd., Japan's sole international payment brand, has announced the expansion of its contactless payment service in Taiwan. Starting March 31, 2026, JCB-branded credit cards issued by Union Bank of Taiwan and Bank SinoPac will support JCB Contactless payments via Google Pay.

This marks the first instance outside Japan where JCB cards will be compatible with Google Pay, a widely used contactless mobile payment service available on Android smartphones and other compatible devices. The integration aims to enhance payment convenience for users in Taiwan, allowing them to make secure transactions using their smartphones.

JCB Contactless payments can be completed by tapping JCB-enabled cards or smartphones on compatible terminals. The service is available at numerous merchants and public transportation systems both in Japan and internationally. For transactions exceeding a certain amount, additional identity verification may be required.

Union Bank of Taiwan and Bank SinoPac have been long-standing partners with JCB, issuing a substantial number of JCB cards in the Taiwanese market. This collaboration is part of JCB's ongoing strategy to expand its international presence and enhance its payment solutions.

JCB's global acceptance network includes about 71 million merchants, with card issuance focused mainly in Asian countries. The company continues to form alliances with leading financial institutions worldwide to broaden its merchant coverage and cardmember base.
