Polyplastics Introduces Recycled Durafide PPS Grades

Polyplastics Co., Ltd., a leader in engineering thermoplastics, has announced the development of two new Durafide polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) grades that incorporate mechanically recycled content. The new grades, Durafide rG-PPS 1140A1R00 and 1140A1R30, feature 100% and 30% recycled glass fiber-reinforced PPS content, respectively, and are set for release in the coming months.

The introduction of these new materials is part of Polyplastics’ Duracycle initiative, which aims for 100% circularity in engineering plastics. These grades are being offered through a re-compounding service that reprocesses process scrap from customers into new products under the company’s “Open PIR Mechanical Recycling Scheme.”

The PPS process scrap collected from partner companies undergoes rigorous inspection, sorting, and reformulation to ensure high-quality production. The re-compounded materials are subject to the same quality assurance protocols as virgin materials and will be distributed through Polyplastics’ global sales network. However, the collection process currently focuses on specific grades of glass-filled Durafide PPS materials.

For the continued success of its re-compounding business and the establishment of the “Open PIR Mechanical Recycling Scheme,” Polyplastics is focused on developing new applications and strengthening collection routes. This initiative seeks partnerships not only with current customers but also across various waste-to-value industries.

The company is exploring the addition of more mechanically recycled PPS grades to its lineup to meet market demands. Polyplastics aims to establish self-contained “local production for local consumption” recycling chains worldwide. By expanding the range of constituent materials to include post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, Polyplastics plans to enhance its capability to supply high-quality, reliable recycled materials, thereby reducing environmental impact and better serving diverse customer needs.
