NTT DOCOMO, INC. has initiated the commercial use of an agentic AI system designed to enhance mobile network operations, the company announced. The platform, which went live on February 4, 2026, aims to improve the efficiency and reliability of mobile networks, essential for daily life, business activities, and public services.
As mobile networks grow more complex with the integration of 4G and 5G services, along with multi-domain and multi-vendor environments, the need for faster response times and swift service restoration has become increasingly critical. Traditionally, network failures with established procedures were managed through automated processes. However, complex failures lacking predefined solutions required manual data analysis by engineers, often leading to extended service disruption times.
To address these challenges, DOCOMO developed an agentic AI platform utilizing AWS's managed services, enabling AI to conduct network behavior analysis and provide troubleshooting and remediation recommendations. The platform is built on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, facilitating the secure governance and deployment of agentic AI at scale. It also employs high-performance databases optimized for agentic AI workloads.
The system orchestrates multiple AI agents and leverages graph-modeled network topology to analyze traffic and alarm data in real time from over one million network devices, including base stations and core network equipment. By detecting anomalies and identifying suspected failure points, the platform presents recommended actions to maintenance engineers, reducing response time for complex network failures by more than 50%.
Takahiro Makiyama, General Manager of the Network Service Management Department at NTT DOCOMO, stated that the initiative marks a significant step toward achieving autonomous network operations. By incorporating agentic AI in maintenance operations, DOCOMO aims to advance network fault response automation and minimize service impact for customers.
Mikihiko Tsunematsu, Director of Telecom, Media, Entertainment, Game & Sports at Amazon Web Services Japan, noted that the collaboration between DOCOMO and AWS demonstrates how autonomous and intelligent network operations are becoming a reality, essential for the future of telecommunications, including 6G and beyond.
The agentic AI system will be showcased at the NTT Group's booth during MWC Barcelona 2026, organized by GSMA, from March 2 to March 5, 2026. DOCOMO plans to continue pursuing advanced AI-driven operations to further enhance service quality for its customers.
