Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, has shipped its first ammonia fuel supply system (AFSS) and ammonia gas abatement system (AGAS) to Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG). These systems are integral to the operation of J-ENG's ammonia-fueled marine engine model 7UEC50LSJA-HPSCR, marking a significant step in the development of next-generation marine engines.
The AFSS is designed to provide a stable and safe supply of ammonia fuel to the engine, while the AGAS processes surplus ammonia generated during the transition from ammonia to conventional fuel oil. Both systems are equipped with an integrated control system that supports remote operation and automatic control, enhancing both safety and operational efficiency.
With the introduction of these systems, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding aims to facilitate onboard verification of J-ENG's ammonia-fueled engine, positioning it as a first mover in advanced fueled engines. This initiative is expected to accelerate decarbonization efforts within the maritime industry, aligning with global sustainability goals.
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding plans to continue strengthening its business structure to meet the increasing demand for ammonia-fueled vessels, reflecting a broader industry shift towards sustainable and environmentally friendly maritime solutions.
