Lockheed Martin and Fujitsu Limited have formalized a key industrial collaboration, marking Fujitsu as a supplier for the SPY-7 radar's power supply unit for Japan’s Aegis System Equipped Vessel (ASEV).
The agreement, signed at a ceremony, involves the production of the SPY-7 Subarray Suite Power Supply Line Replaceable Unit (PS LRU), advancing co-production efforts and reinforcing the Japanese industrial base.
This development highlights Lockheed Martin's strategy to bolster a Japan-based supply chain for the SPY-7 radar, ensuring the ASEV fleet remains capable and mission-ready for the long term, stated Chandra Marshall, Lockheed Martin’s Vice President and General Manager.
Fujitsu's commitment to the mass production of these units aligns with its strategy to enhance Japan's domestic defense production capabilities, according to Kenichiro Miyazaki, Head of Fujitsu’s National Security Business Unit.
Initially agreed upon in a memorandum of understanding in May 2025, the collaboration leverages Lockheed Martin's SPY-7 radar technology, known for advanced detection and tracking, as well as its ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously.
The SPY-7 radar offers several times the capability of its predecessor, the SPY-1, and is operational globally. Its interoperability with other systems, such as the Aegis Combat System, is a key feature.
As regional security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific evolve, the partnership between Lockheed Martin and Japan reflects a strategic effort to enhance security and technological capabilities in the region.
This collaboration signifies a robust industry partnership aimed at strengthening Japan's role within the Indo-Pacific and broader regional security frameworks.
