Fujitsu Limited and H2O Retailing Corporation have announced the successful deployment of a wireless tablet POS system across all 15 Hankyu Hanshin Department Stores, marking one of Japan's largest tablet POS implementations in department stores.
The initiative introduces approximately 5,000 tablet units in non-food sales areas and 400 dedicated POS units in food sales areas. This system allows sales associates to engage with customers and process payments without leaving the sales floor, enhancing service quality and the overall shopping experience.
H2O Retailing plans to integrate additional business applications, such as customer relationship management and service support tools, into these tablet units to further improve the customer experience. Fujitsu's Uvance business model, focused on addressing societal challenges through data and AI, supports this initiative by linking the purchasing and supply chain cycles.
The system, part of Fujitsu's Unified Commerce offering, centralizes customer touchpoint information. It unifies the screen displays and operability of stationary and mobile POS systems, reducing the burden of learning multiple operating methods and decreasing training hours for sales associates.
The wireless tablets enable a one-stop operation for customer engagement and payment within the same sales area, providing a smoother shopping experience. SIM-equipped tablets also allow for expanded POS systems outside stores for special events and mobile sales, maintaining consistent service quality.
Built in a cloud environment, the system uses a pay-per-use licensing model based on annual transaction numbers, allowing for flexible resource adjustment according to sales floor demands. This ensures stable operation and a comfortable payment environment, even during peak seasons.
