Keio Plaza Hotel’s ‘Shoan’ Tea Room to Reopen, Offering Cultural Experiences for Tourists

Keio Plaza Hotel Co., Ltd. is set to reopen its traditional Japanese tea ceremony room, 'Sho-fu-an,' on April 6, 2026, following extensive renovations. Situated on the 10th floor of its Main Tower, the 'Sho-fu-an' has been a cultural fixture since the hotel's opening in 1971.

The reopening comes after a closure since May 2024 for floor renovations. In celebration of the room's renewed operations, the hotel will introduce two Japanese cultural experiences: the 'Tea Ceremony Experience' and the 'Tencha Tea Preparation Experience.' These sessions will be led by a certified tea ceremony master, who will provide English commentary to accommodate international visitors.

The 'Tea Ceremony Experience' offers guests the opportunity to enjoy matcha tea and Japanese sweets, accompanied by an introduction to the traditional tearoom by the tea master. Meanwhile, during the 'Tencha Tea Preparation Experience,' participants will engage in hands-on preparation of matcha.

Located in Tokyo's bustling Shinjuku district, the Keio Plaza Hotel is strategically positioned for both tourists and business travelers. With a significant portion of its clientele being international visitors, up to 90%, the hotel has curated a variety of cultural activities to enrich guests' experiences. The reopening of 'Sho-fu-an' is expected to bolster the hotel's offerings and enhance guests' cultural engagement.

The tea room will be operational from April 6 to August 30, 2026, with sessions scheduled on Mondays and Sundays from April to June, and on Wednesdays and Sundays in July and August. This schedule aims to provide flexibility for tourists exploring the rich cultural landscape of Tokyo.
